Michele Kang is a trailblazing businesswoman and investor dedicated to advancing women’s sports across the globe. As the first woman of color to own an NWSL team – the Washington Spirit – and the majority owner of OL Lyonnes and London City Lionesses, as well as chairwoman and president of Olympique Lyonnais, Kang continues to set new standards across the industry. In 2024, she launched Kynisca, the first multi-team global organization focused on professionalizing women’s football, demonstrating its long-term commercial viability and cultural impact.
Since launching Kynisca, Michele has made multiple impactful investments and donations in the women’s sports ecosystem, including teams like USA Women’s Rugby, U.S. Soccer, and organizations reinventing the blueprint for women’s footwear like IDA Sports. In 2025, Michele Kang and U.S. Soccer launched the Kang Women’s Institute through her historic $55 million commitment to advance research, health, and performance standards for women and girls in the sport.
Michele has been recognized as the 2025 Sports Philanthropist of the Year by ESPN, featured on the TIME100 Philanthropy and Sports lists, and named to Forbes’ 2025 list of Most Powerful Women in Sports. She has also been recognized as the 2025 European Regional winner of the International Olympic Committee’s Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Champions Award.
She holds degrees from the University of Chicago and the Yale School of Management.
